Am I wrong in thinking, if only the Government gave us a tax deduction for having private medical insurance, wouldnt that maybe encourage more to take out medical insurance. therefore saving overall on healthcare costs? The savings could then subsidise other areas like free ambulance, dental. reduce public waiting lists? Or would this then put a strain on the public system, by more specialists/surgeons opting for private practice?
I say this only because the few times my husband has been admitted for surgery in a private hospital, out of about 30 beds, quite often you might only see half a dozen patients. This particular hospital is often contracted for ACC patients and even through our DHB.
